Bengaluru is a city of new dreams. As the modern metropolis steps into its second decade of existence, it has emerged as an educational hub of India with new hopes and possibilities opening for every new beginning. The two-year old engineering college, Sishiram College of Technology, is one such industry-focused institution in the city. The institute, set up in 2010, boasts of a high ratio of females to males, apart from a high level of employability. The director of the institute, however, does not want to mince words. “We are the best in terms of employability.”
Students from all parts of India attend Sishiram College of Technology for its MCA (Master of Computer Applications) programme. But the institution has an excellent placement record as well. Apart from getting over 50 per cent of the seats filled by the pool of applicants, the college has maintained a record of getting over 80 per cent of its graduates placed within six months of their graduation. According to the director of the institute, Sesh Ratnam, the dream is simple. “Our target is to get 40 per cent placement in the top two companies in the city.”
Since the opening of Sishiram College of Technology, Bengaluru has emerged as one of the most promising cities for young graduates and engineering aspirants. The city has seen a rapid growth in the demand for engineering services and is now the second largest city in India in terms of employment. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited is extending its network to the city in the next phase of expansion. The public transport system, which includes the Bengaluru Metro and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation, has seen a high growth in passengers over the past decade. The automobile sector too has made a mark with a growing number of companies setting up shop.
As a result, Bengaluru has become the second largest financial hub in India. There are three main campuses of the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) spread out in the city. The two new IITs—IIT-Madras and IIT-Bombay—in the state are set to become the largest technical institutions in the country. The total student strength is close to 25,000 at IISc alone. This includes not only the undergraduate and post-graduate students, but also those pursuing PhDs.
The city is on the path to becoming a knowledge-based hub, the aspirations of the city having been clearly set out ac619d1d87
